Dear Family & Friends,
“A lot of people like snow. I find it to be an unnecessary freezing of water.” ― Carl Reiner
For me, however, it is hard to believe how much of our country and how much of the world experience Christmas without snow. Unthinkable! Snow is a beautiful thing (at least during early winter). And Christmas and snow go together like ham and cheese, coffee and cream, or cookies and milk. Think of any Christmas movie; Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful Life, or even Christmas Vacation and they all have the white stuff. Right now, in Kentucky as I sit to write, we are having our first winter storm. We are expecting 4” to 6” and as always from inside a warm and cozy home it has a quiet peaceful beauty about it. The clean, fresh, coating of new snow is much more than just another pretty scene. It is symbolic of a cleansing, a “white-washing” if you will, for our natural surroundings. It also represents a season in change. That idea often makes me turn inward and reflective. I need seasons in my life and sometimes I need the forced change of a new approaching one like winter. Maybe this winter, as nature experiences the change of a season, you and I will experience one too. From our family to yours, we hope that this Christmas season brings you hope, renewal and faith that all comes from the One who’s birth we celebrate. Merry Christmas to you and may all your Christmases be white!

Tomorrow, we’ll celebrate our youngest grandson’s first birthday (born 12-12-12). Sawyer joins seven others to make eight precious little ones ranging from 9 yrs to 1, and they
are a complete joy. We are planning on seeing them all for a Christmas gathering in or around Christmas day.
This year Barb and I are both doing just fine. Since her retirement from her job at church, she has become more active and involved with family and travel and I think I can safely speak for her that she is loving it. When we are home, each time she tells me we are scheduled to watch some little grandchildren, she gets a smile on her face so I know that it suits her well. As for travel, she has been able to join me in DC, Copenhagen, and on a super West Michigan road trip which we both really enjoyed. I have still been flying around the world for Omni and lately have had a good bit of time at home which it always good. After the holidays, my honey-do list includes the remodeling of our last bathroom project. For us this year has been a great great family year, where we have had sweet fellowship, some sobering prayer requests, and always a huge measure of God’s blessings. It has been a real pleasure to see our son’s families mature and grow as they continue developing their careers.
We all know that life is just a series of seasons. “He made the moon to mark the
seasons; the sun knows its time for setting”. Psalm 104:19 And every one of
theses seasons in nature or our life comes right on time. One ends as another
begins. May this new approaching season be one of your most memorable and
full of blessing.

Merry Christmas from Florence!
