Sztanyo Christmas Greeting 2020!
May this Christmas season be your family's
most meaningful ever!  From our family to yours have a
Merry Christmas and  Happy New Year!

Dear Family & Friends,

As I sit to write a short note wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Year’s, it is impossible to avoid the elephant in the room; covid. It has made 2020, one of, if not the most weird years in our lives. Yes, covid is having an impact on our outlook and health, our church gatherings and outreach, our travel plans, it even had an impact on our Thanksgiving family time, that did not happen this year. It is now even changing thoughts about the typical family gatherings we love during Christmas. I know you have your own set of frustrations and cautions about this crazy time which in we are living. But with all that said, we don’t want to focus and turn this letter into a pity party, but rather we wish to share with you what we have been able to experience and do as God has granted us another wonderful year filled with His amazing grace.

Barb and I are both healthy, happy and thankful and have actually enjoyed this past year. We hope, that through it all, you have had many many things to be grateful for as well. Early in 2020, we went to a couple of Men’s Spartan Basketball games and even a couple of UK Wildcat games and had a ball. While we are again following the Sparties BB games on TV, we hope that the arena attendance will soon become an option again. In the Spring, Summer and Fall we had a nice trips to Michigan visiting the farm, family and friends while there. Barb enjoyed her “sister’s weekend” again shopping in Lansing in October as I spent a very fun time on the farm hunting and was able to see our grandson, Joey, bag his first whitetail. While travel plans of cruises and the like had to be altered, we did get away to Gatlinburg with my sister and her husband Frank, and had a wonderful time there. Probably our most important series of events were medical and surrounded procedures on Barb’s eyes for glaucoma. After a number of procedures and lots of appointments we have some good news to report that her vision is good and the internal eye pressure is down where it should be, and we are both so very thankful for that.

With family news, the biggest thing we are praising God for is the birth our new grandchild, Holt Paul Sztanyo, born on January 22nd at 8.6 #’s. While his name is Holt, which refers to a grove of trees, he could have been called “Bolt” on his birthday because he came within minutes of hospital arrival. This online letter below has a few family pics and some of this new most welcome addition. On August 15th we went to an outside gathering of our 50th high school class reunion and it was great. In other marriage news, Barb and I celebrated with her sister Brenda and Denny, and my brother, Dick and Sheila’s their 50th wedding anniversaries. Our own 48th wedding anniversary happened on August 12th and we wondered where has all the time gone? The other family news we are most grateful for is that all three sons were able to hold onto their jobs and fair well during this pandemic economy we live in, which has been a big family blessing.

Whether this year you will gather with family or be more alone, whether things seem so unusual or even upside down, and whether lying in front of you is a big challenge or even a real deep valley, nothing can change the reality of what Christmas is and can mean for us.

Christ was Born, Salvation has Come, and the World Rejoices!

Everything seems to be a matter of focus and maybe we focus a little too much on the circumstances very near to us and not on the bigger picture. In the wider view we can usually better see our God’s amazing love, abiding grace and His ultimate control. May this Christmas, with all of its uniqueness, be one of your family’s greatest ever!

From our family to yours,
Merry Christmas from Florence!

Barb and Mark Sztanyo
