Dear Family & Friends,
Merry Christmas from Florence!
In a word this year has been golden! Golden in the sense that it has seemed shiny. Shiny because of a year of health and prosperity for ourselves and our family. Also golden in the sense of being precious and valuable, as we sincerely feel that being around family and friends is one of the very best gifts that life can offer. Our most recent gathering was Thanksgiving and all 20 of us were here, and to Barb and I, it was a very precious time! And lastly, golden in the sense that we celebrated our 50th year of marriage
together and it has been truly golden and wonderful. Our gathering on
August 13th with family in friends was also a wonderful time and it
certainly made us feel overwhelmed with gratitude and love. Here’s a
quote from Barb’s dear friend Roz Moorhead, “Make new friends, but
keep the old. One is silver, and the other is gold!”
Earlier in the year, in March, we attended a March Madness 1st round Sparty game in Greenville, SC. We enjoyed Greenville, the game, and the fun and adventurous drive to and from. In July we spent a week in England including a Downton Abbey tour, a visit to the Church at Canterbury, the White cliffs of Dover, and multi day concentration on the sights of the city of London.
In Sept and Nov, Barb and her group of “wild church ladies” went on their Girlfriend retreats. In between we went on a Branson, MO bus trip in Oct. At Branson we really enjoyed the sights, scenes and the entertainment. And also in Oct there was Sister’s weekend in Lansing, MI and my farm bow hunt adventure that both are always a fun time. We also completed 2 home renovations for son Eric’s flipping activities and we were satisfied and think all others were happy with the results.
As Christmas approaches, sometimes we all get so bogged down with burdens and activity. This time of year, often elevates that, and makes it even feel worse with high pressure. We get anxious, stressed, sometimes even a little lonely and depressed. It is always good to pause meditate on the “reason for the season” and on all that it means for us that Christ came into our world. This little time spent writing to you, helps me with that “pause.” It helps me to realize how thankful I am that we know family and friends, like you, and what you mean to our life. In the midst of anxiety and chaos it also brings me the peace of God and His outpouring of love and grace. And if I pause long enough, it even helps me get a mind and spirit reset, from all the worry and negative that I often focus upon to the wonderful good that has happened here, around our family and throughout the year. We hope that you can find a time to “pause”…….. and reflect on some of these worthwhile things. May your Christmas be Merry but may it moreover be filled with joy and gratefulness for the blessings that we all have received and continue receive because of our Lord’s mercies.
From Barb and I to you and yours, God Bless you and your family!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Barb and Mark Sztanyo
Peace, Love and Joy!
